About OSSWA

The Ohio School Social Work Association (OSSWA) was formed December 5, 1997. We are one of 11 states represented by the Midwest School Social Work Council. We also collaborate with NASW and are an affiliate state with the School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA).

School Social Workers are the vital link between the home, school, and community. Our services to students, families and school personnel promote and support students’ academic, social, emotional and behavioral success. We strive to protect and strengthen this work through advocacy, building relationships, and offering high-quality professional development.

  • We study, recommend, and support legislation pertinent to the needs of students, families, and the profession of school social work.
  • We promote programs, activities and research within school systems leading to improved quality of life for all students.

Building Relationships

We establish an maintain collaborative relationships with local, state and national educational, mental health, medical, juvenile justice, and child welfare entities.

Professional Development

We provide educational and professional opportunities for School Social Workers and School Based Mental Health Social Workers.
