  As schools continue to strengthen prevention, early intervention, and Integrated Multi-Tiered System of Supports (IMTSS), school social workers play an increasingly important role in understanding and utilizing evidence-based screening practices. This session will build participants' screening literacy by exploring the role of screening within school social work, reviewing the characteristics of high-quality screening tools, and introducing a variety of evidence-based screeners used across school settings. Participants will explore tools related to universal and targeted screening, suicide risk, substance use, early childhood development, behavioral health, school climate and belonging, while learning practical considerations for implementation and data-informed decision making. Participants will leave with a practical framework for evaluating screening tools and engaging in informed conversations with school and district teams about screening practices that best align with their local context, student needs, and available resources.
