Scope of Practice: BSW and MSW Level School Social Workers

OSSWA will sponsor a one hour workshop "Scope of Practice: BSW and MSW Level School Social Workers". The one hour workshop will be held virtually from 6:30-7:30 PM on Wednesday, October 26, 2022.

Co-facilitators for the workshop are Teri Kinsway, MSW, LISW-S, the Social Work Program Manager for the OSU Marion Campus and School Social Work Licensure Coordinator at the Ohio State University and Brenda Rinkes, MSW, LISW-S retired school social worker and field coordinator/instructor in the social work program at West Liberty University. 

The program will offer information and discuss appropriate tasks and activities for social workers with a bachelor’s degree providing services in a school setting and compare those actions with the skills and competencies of a clinician with a Master of Social Work degree.  The workshop will also focus on Licensed Social Work (LSW) activities that requires supervision by a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) and/or a Licensed Independent Social Worker with the Supervision designation (LISW-S).  

OBJECTIVES:

1. Participants will develop an awareness and understanding of appropriate activities and tasks for a BSW level social workers in a school setting.

2. Attendees will learn the activities and tasks appropriate for a BSW/LSW and MSW/ LSW level social worker in a school setting and those that require the supervision of a LISW-S level social worker

3. Participants will gain awareness of the content/topics presented in a BSW school work course.
